Los Angeles Neighborhood Initiative (LANI) is committed to protecting your privacy. This page outlines what information is collected on our website and how we use it.

What information is collected?

LANI collects information volunteered by website visitors such as information collected through the mailing list request icon, and information collected when contacting LANI with questions or for assistance. Information collected includes personally identifiable details (for example, name, address and email), information about organizational affiliation, and information about your neighborhood. No personably identifiable information is collected about individuals without their knowledge. LANI also collects aggregate information about website use, without identifying personal information, such as what pages and sections are most popular for users.

How is this information used?

LANI uses the information voluntarily provided to help decide what website content, publications, emails and other information is most helpful for visitors. LANI also may contact individuals with news and alerts about opportunities or to notify about upcoming events. LANI uses aggregate information about website usage to shape website content.

Sharing information with third parties

LANI may share aggregate information about web users and web usage with contractors who help to shape web content or work to improve the website. LANI does not make any lists of visitors to the website or their email addresses available to third parties. LANI occasionally may make portions of the postal mailing list available to carefully screened organizations that the organization believes may interest. Email policy

LANI provides forms on its website where users can sign-up to receive email publications and email notices. No one is placed on a regular email list that has not requested subscription through these forms or through some other manner. Users can unsubscribe from any email list on the registration section of the website or through the unsubscribe link on any email sent. As new email publications are developed, users may be sent an invitation to subscribe.

LANI takes the following measures to ensure that information collected on our website is kept secure and is used as intended:

All data is stored on secure, firewall-protected servers either at LANI’s office or those of business with whom LANI has contracted to support online donation, email outreach, online store or services. Data is accessible only by authorized staff of LANI and its contractors. Sensitive data, such as credit card and other financial information, is collected on secure forms and transmitted using industry-standard Secure Socket Layer Encryption (SSL) technology. Credit card information is retained only as long as necessary to complete the donation or purchase request of the user.

LANI takes utmost precaution to protect credit card information, but users who prefer not to use credit cards for online donations can contact LANI for assistance.

Use of cookies

Cookies are pieces of information that are stored on computers and are used for record keeping purposes. LANI uses cookies to facilitate authentication and personalization on our website.  We use only anonymous information (such as IP address) to track how our online visitors use our website.

Google services, such as Google Analytics, may be used which places first-party and/or third-party cookies on a browser across the websites. To opt out of Google tracking, please visit their opt-out page. Google AdWords “remarketing” may also be used to market the site across the web. LANI may amend this privacy policy at any time. Continued use of the website after the date that such notices are posted will be deemed to be a visitor’s agreement to the changed terms.
