Active Projects: Koreatown Gateway
LANI was contracted by the Community Redevelopment Agency/ Designated Local Authority to manage and implement the design and construction of a cultural gateway at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Normandie Avenue. Concepts discussed included vertical elements within the intersection and an over-the-street archway crossing Normandie Avenue and adjacent to the Koreatown Pavilion Garden, a completed LANI project just north of Olympic. The design firm was selected by the project steering committee (PSC) through a competitive process to assist the community in realizing their vision, refine the gateway design and oversee construction.
The location of this project is particularly rich with recent and ongoing improvements. The site of the future gateway is surrounded by Seoul Peace Park, renovated through the Dodger’s Dream Field program, a new LAUSD primary center (Mariposa-Nabi), extensive streetscape improvements on Olympic Blvd. with a traditional Korean design theme, a recently completed senior center and the much beloved Koreatown Pavilion Garden.
