Completed Projects: Knoll Hill Conceptual Planning Project
At the request of the San Pedro area Neighborhood Councils and the Port of Los Angeles, LANI successfully completed a community-driven planning and design process in an effort to envision and shape the future of Knoll Hill, the last remaining undeveloped hill top in the Los Angeles community of San Pedro. The Knoll Hill Project Steering Committee (PSC), a community-based representative body, was critical to the success of this project and worked closely with LANI throughout the process.
After an extensive round of community and PSC meetings, the following top priority plan elements were identified:
- Restroom facilities and drinking fountains
- Shade structures and trees
- Multi-Purpose Open Field: Flexible use grassy area designed to accommodate a wide range of activities.
- Trailheads and Trails
Other high priority program elements included: native garden walk, nature and exploratory area, picnic area, great lawn, civic open space, gateway, dedicated bike/pedestrian sharrow, native landscaping, food service facility and landscaped parking area.
This project would not have been possible without key partners, including the competitively selected design firm Melendrez, Inc., the Port of Los Angeles and a project team of government advisors including the Office of Councilmember Janice Hahn, Council District 15.
