Completed Projects: Huntington Commercial Façade and Signage Improvement Project

With support from the Community Development Department of the City of Los Angeles (CDD), LANI oversaw the Huntington Commercial Façade and Signage Improvement Project making significant improvements to six small businesses on Huntington Drive North between Castalia and Rosemead Avenues. The project helped restore a 1920’s building enabling the property owner to rent three storefronts that had been vacant for over twenty years. New paint, awnings, brick restoration, signage and lighting fixtures, among other improvements, transformed this cluster of storefronts into a cohesive, pedestrian friendly shopping environment that reflects the character and pride of the local community.

The project was funded through Community Development Block Grant funds. Utilizing LANI’s community engagement process, a Project Steering Committee (PSC) of El Sereno stakeholders, the property owners and business tenants worked with Thirtieth Street Architects, Inc. to design the improvements. The project, along with the new Barrio Action Youth and Family Center, the Council District 14 Constituent Center and numerous streetscape improvements, beautified the neighborhood and has helped to stimulate new economic growth.
